KTM 100w stator kit to fit Beta 250?

Postby Phatpat » Wed May 27, 2015 11:50 am

I've got a 100w stator kit (with a rectifier) from my old KTM 300 exc -09 and I've had several dealers say it's supposed to fit my Beta 250 RR -15 but when attempting to change it it didn't look the same. So does it fit but with some modification or is it a stator kit from a newer KTM 2-stroke that will fit? Meaning, is there a difference?

There's no rush to get more power but I'd like to run some more lights later on this year for some riding in the dark and I'm hoping to not have to buy a completely new statorkit.

I compared mine to a 2011 KTM 300XC. Looks like you might have to modify the wiring hook up as far as the connectors. I hear trail tech is working on a Beta kit now.

Ok, anyone done this and has some pictures to explain? Because yes, the wiring was completely different and I'm not sure how to modify it to get it to work.

The wires are the same color. Just different connectors. Also the rubber grommets that go in the motor are different.

Ok so I've spoken to Trail tech and they told me that the SR-8310 stator kit is a plug-and-play fit on the Betas, both two and four-stroke. So, now you know.

Are you planning on LEDs? If so you likely won't need the larger stator. Playing with a few different LED arrays and seeing a lot more at the 24 hr race this summer, I think you run into a practical size and weight limitation before a power supply limitation. 100w is huge by LED standards.

Maybe but my LEDs use 50-60w (not the newest on the market but very good stuff), I also run a fan. Using the starter on top of that feels like pushing the limits with 70w. Anyhow, already ordered it.

But if not using a larger stator, wouldn't I still need to use a rectifier to run LEDs?

You will be fine. I can run a 40W LED bar with two more 10W LEDS no problem. The charging ckt is a different winding than the main AC ckt. Yes you need a rectifier, but just a simple rectifier not a rectifier/regulator, easy and cheap. If I'm correct the Trail Tech stator is configured different with a single output winding and a floating ground, and must be used with their rectifier/regulator that replaces the OEM part. The bike is all DC then.

Yeah that's correct!

Oh well, I've got it tomorrow. I guess I'll just have to run a sh*tload of LEDs now, maybe even some neon LEDs around the engine and rest of the bike. Rolling x-mas tree.
