computer battery dies in two rides

Postby bryanaverill » Sun Dec 27, 2015 11:05 am

The computer battery on my '16 250rr dies in a month or about two rides. The manual says the backlight stays on while the bike is running and uses the internal battery. Is this the cause for short battery life? Can the backlight be turned off? There are no instructions for this in the manual. Thanks.

My battery lasted all of 2 months. I bought a 2 pack from Walmart, installed mine and noticed my buddies had also died. His bike is 3 days newer than mine. 16' RR 250 and 300. If anybody has info I'm eager to hear about it.

We recently have had this issue with a 2015 X-Trainer, we are going to try a different meter to see if it is the meter or in the wiring. I think once the bike is running, the meter is supposed to run off of the bike battery.

I would wait and see how long the replacement lasts. Theres no way to really know how long the first battery has been in there. Normally there is a cellophane insulator that keeps the battery from touching the contact on instruments like these but I don't know if they use them on these.

Normally the meter should run off the bike and the battery is only there to keep memory for distance done, hrs etc etc

4:34 ART indicated. Actual is probably 50% higher because the computer battery was dead part of that time. I bought the bike on 10/24/15. I have replaced the OEM battery and a fresh Eveready CR2032. I just put in a second replacement battery. Bike
battery is fine and bike runs well.

Purely a guess on my part but it sure sounds like it is not getting power from the bike itself and is running off the internal batt all the time. Of course it could be you may have a bum computer - sounds like a dealer problem or at least letting them know so that warranty covers it.
