300rr speedo

My speedo stopped working half way through my ride the other day. As far as I can tell I didn't damage the pick up wire at all. The gauge still works for all other functions except for the speedo. Has any one had this issue and is there a simple fix. This is on a 2016 300rr. I also tried adjusting the pick up and using a stronger magnet just to see if it will trigger the sensor.

Try checking the white plug up behind the H/light for the speed sensor wire
Mine sometimes doesnt read correctly and I have to give the plug connectors a push to make a stronger connection.
I think the connectors in the plug work loose in the plug housing and with the vibrations of riding they loosen up and cause a intermediate break.

Is the magnet tip still on the disc?

The magnet is still there. What I might do is disconnect the plug and run jumpers from one wire to the other to eliminate the variable of the plug. See if it works then and if not go from there. I have a yz450 with a trailtech gauge. And I could jump the wires from the pick up wire on that bike and if it works then I know there is an issue in the betas pick up wire or magnet. It's probably some thing super simple. Is the speedo required for the hour meter. I wouldn't think so but it seems like the hour meter might have stopped the same time that the speedo stopped.

Yes I think that if the speedo is not working the hour meter is not working as well.
Why don't you check continuity of the existing wire (if you have a voltmeter) ?
If resistance is very low then wire is good.
If its big (say 100 Ω) then it is grounded somewhere (very difficult to happen for this wire)
If its infinite, it is cut, broken.....

So I figured out that the cable is bad. I hooked up a cable from a trail tech gauge on another bike and it works. Has anyone had an issue with their cables or did I just get a bad one. I am waiting to hear from the dealer how much a new cable will cost. I thought I might have read some where that people have put the trail tech speedo cable on the bike because it is better than the factory cable. If so I could get one for $26 and I already know that it works.

I got everything fixed. I sacrificed the speedo cable from a trailtech gauged from another bike. Lines up perfectly with the factory Magnet on the rotor and actually tucks the wire up close to the fork and out of the way to prevent snags. I actually
think it looks better than stock. I cut and soldered the factory plug on to the new wire so it still uses the factory disconnect.

Amazon has the cable for $27 bucks. Just search trail tech speedo cable. As far as I can tell all the cables are the same. It does not come with the magnet for the disc but I was able to use the stock magnet.
