Computer dead

Postby allkidd » Tue Nov 15, 2016 5:11 pm

All of a sudden, the computer on my Beta Xtrainer went dead. It was working fine when I stopped to take a break. When I started back up it was totally dead. I put in a new battery but it didn't make any difference and the wiring all seems to be intact.

I hate to purchase a new instrument as it is over $200. Any thoughts and/or suggestions would be appreciated.

Did you push the red reset button on the back after you installed the new battery?

The battery is just there for memory backup. Unlikely to have an affect on whether or not the thing turns on. With a sudden stop like that I would suggest an internal fault and likely not something to do with any wiring externally of the unit. I think this was a common problem on some years models for this bike and the RR?

Thanks for the replies! I've contacted my dealer and he is going to see about getting me another one. I'm beyond my 6 month warranty so we will see what happens.

When I purchased the bike new in February of this year, the computer didn't work and was totally dead. After a couple months they sent me a new one that has now only lasted a few months. So, it appears that there is a flaw in the computers.

Other than this problem, I love my first Beta!

Had problems with my 2016 rr300 computer. Battery dies quick, I did get a replacement at 6 months but that still dies but not as quick. I notice when stopped for a breather on the lanes with the engine killed the back light comes on at times suspect faulty computers. The replacement looked older than original going by serial number. Be good to fit a 2017 computer if they will supply you one of them.

If you continue to have problems, consider a switch to an aftermarket speedo like an Acewell or Trailtech. You will lose the warning light for oil but would mean you wouldn't have to keep replacing it.

Having said this, you may be able to find the wire that triggers the warning light and slip it in to a different wire on the Acewell, as they could come with various warning lights you may otherwise not use.

The Beta display on my Xtrainer is made by Trail Tech. I'm on my 2nd one now after the first flooded with water and was replaced under warranty. Do you have reason to believe the units available directly from Trail Tech are manufactured with better quality?

If Beta won't replace my faulty computer I would purchase a different brand like trail tech. Although, I really hate to lose the low oil indicator. Not that I ever let the oil get low but the light is good insurance against an unknown leak.

For sure, I'm not paying $225 for a new Beta computer only to have it go out a few months later.
