300rr starter motor

Postby cemetrykeeper » Tue Jul 11, 2017 1:24 pm

Good evening.
dont know if anyone has experianced my problem(maybe the first) but the starter on my 15 beta 300 stopped working at a recent race. kick starter was used second day which drew a few startled looks. when home tried the usual known issues, battery, earthing, wire seperation at the headstock(found earth wires had seperated and repaired) but still nothing????
last resort take starter off and apart.
problem solved, magnets had detatched from housing??? Beta list replacement at £200
does anyone know of replacement/alternative???

That's a first hearing for me as far as magnets detaching.. Thanks for posting.. I saw a starter on ebay.. don't know if buying brand new is better or not.

Just leave out the detached magnet and put it back together.
I managed to break one of my starter magnets, so I removed it, put it back on the bike and it worked just fine.
It turned over ever so slightly slower but still worked every time. Did 75 hours on it like that no trouble at all.

I've also had 3 magnets detach from my 300rr race, although it was still working to some degree. I've since rebuilt the starter and glued the magnets back on but it's now got no torque.
I removed the starter and connected it directly to my 4wd battery, still no good, I can hold the shaft from spinning.
I haven't replaced the brushes but I have cleaned them up.
Any ideas on what it could be would be greatly appreciated.

If the brushes are still in decent nick, I'd say the orientation of the reinstalled magnets may be wrong.

I think you're spot on Twitch, i thought they may have been around the wrong way so I removed the 3 magnets I'd glued in and it was better.
Now I just need to work out which is the right way around, any ideas?
Do you know if you can get new magnets? Mine are a bit bashed around now.

Im pretty certain the magnets should alternate N-S-N-S Etc.

As for replacement magnets i haven't really seen any for the beta starter motors, They only seem to sell brushes and complete motors.
