2019 300RR Stator & Lighting Upgrade Questions

Postby Twitch909 » Tue Jul 24, 2018 6:11 pm

Hello all,

I have recently put a pre-order in for a 2019 300rr and cannot wait to get out there and give her a go!
80% of my riding is with a local crew riding primarily at night doing technical single trail.
Now the nature of all this night riding requires the use of plenty of lights, My previous bike (2015 ktm 250exc-f) had ample Available wattage to run my additional lighting accesorries (Approximately an additional 40Watts)

So Im wondering if anyone has had any experiance with the later model 2t's stators?
From what I can gather they output about 30W DC and 50W AC, Has anyone converted this over to strictly DC utilising a larger Reg/rectifier Unit?

I did notice Trailtech makes a Bolt on Kit with an upgraded stator and Reg/rectifier taking the output to 100W DC, If all else fails I may contact them and see if they are compatable with the 2019 Models. Has anyone had any experiance with the Trailtech Stators?

Thanks!

I have ordered the 150W regulator/Rectifier from Trailtech, As the first step.
If im finding the 80W DC Total to not be sufficent, Ill look at upgrading the Stator.

This will either be achieved by buying a larger stator from trailtech, or by DIY rewinding it.

Once this bike gets here i'll start posting some Images and upgrade progress.

Okay so I recieved the bike yesterday, Very impressed with the build quality so far.
Iv'e stripped her down, added the trailtech regulator unit, And floated the earth on the current stator.
The only minor hurdle at the moment is bypassing the Diode group so the whole bike runs off DC/Battery.
The Regulator has a timer circuit built in that ill use in place of the diode group (via the use of a relay) to prevent any accidental discharging.

On another note, has anyone had the chance to scope a trailtech regulator/rectifier to see how clean/substational its DC ripple is in comparison to the OEM unit.

Since removing the diode group and replacing it with a relay running via the timer circuit off the trailtech regulator, I have put 14hrs and 500km on the bike and the OI hasnt missed a beat. Incase anyone was wondering.

It seems like the diode group was added as a solid state means to prevent the battery from discharging to any parasitic load. IE only to be used for E-starter.

I'll keep posting updates incase anyone is interested in doing the same to their bikes later down the track.

Thanks for posting your progress. I'd like to upgrade the headlight, or add auxiliary lights, to my 2018 Xtrainer. So far, I've only gone on one night ride and the guy I was behind said my headlight was "as bright as a single firefly." LOL

Yeah they arent very bright, I have a replacement H4 LED globe coming in from a mob in China that has had some very good feedback, it is still 36W but should have more than twice the lumen output as the OEM halogen. Now if you went down that path you'd either need a standalone rectifier unit to run the LED to avoid low RPM flickering or convert your whole bike over to DC like I have.

Once this globe is in, Ill post some feedback. I am currently running two AUX 10W LED spotlights and the stock halogen and find the halogen is still a bit limiting in the highspeed sections.

Im going to post up an updated electrical drawing that will reflect the changes i have made for everyones information, I just need to find the time to do it.

Okay here are some images comparing stock Vs my mods, Any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
I was going to highlight the AC and DC systems on the OEM schematic but I got bored :)
If I do it later I'll upload.

Please note, the stator has been modified to suit these mods (Floated earth)
And the regulator rectifier is a 150W unit from trailtech.
