2019 430 RR-S Low Fuel Indicator Light Always ON

Postby Dezzzmomike » Tue Nov 13, 2018 4:43 pm

Obviously under warranty but looking for user feedback.

Bike is 5 weeks old and after the second fill up with Shell 91 Premium the Low Fuel light is staying on regardless of how much fuel is in the tank.

Closest dealer is 2 hours away for me.

Took the tank off and checked the low fuel sending unit by turning the drained, empty tank upside down and watched to see if the switch funtion worked by motoring it with a DVM. The switch works normal. Shows an open position when inverted and closed when sitting in normal position on bike.

Checked the rest of the circuit and issue is related to the sending unit float for sure.

Acting as if the new foam float no longer floats.

Anyone else have/see this problem?

Happened to me on my 15' 350. The float itself was bad. It had deteriorated. I just removed it all together, keeping an eye on gas the ol fashioned way.

Yes, from what I hear it's very common. especially if you install a larger tank. the hole in the tank to install the sending unit is too tight. as you squeeze the float through the hole it scrapes off the coating on the float and it eventually saturates and doesn't float. but I actually started having problems before I installed the tank. I ignore the fuel light, but I think I'll just pull the bulb out

My 2018 390RR-S just started doing the same thing at about 700 miles. It must be marginal as it occasionally goes off when riding. Just another item to add to the oil burning issue!

The dealer told me the low fuel light wasnt worth the trouble and advised I disconnect it before i even wheeled it off the showroom floor. My tank is opaque, I check the fuel level by looking at it.

It's time for Beta to re-engineer the float. Many of us have non-opaque tanks so looking at the level is not an option. Using the trip-meeter/odometer is but who wants to do math when riding? The light is there for a reason and it certainly should not fail on any of our bikes- especially after 2 months! :(

My fuel light used to blink as I rode - 2018 430 RRS. Turned out the light was supposed to be on but was blinking due to a bad wiring harness. Replaced the wiring harness and the fuel light was always on.

So I clipped the sensor (its hosed anyway) and capped the molex and check the fuel level the old fashion way.

Thumbs up on a reliable/working sensor - or just remove it from new bikes.

So...the hole diameter in the IMS 3.1 tank is .438. However, the stock Beta uses an odd size .440 that requires a custom reamer. I ordered a special reamer and reamed the .002 out of the IMS tank. The warranty replacement fuel level sensor fit in perfectly and the float and light works fine now. Time for IMS to start drilling these tanks with the correct hole size. A lot of unnecessary work for us owners that have non-opaque tanks and don't want to do memory-math when riding.

^^ good job. It doesn't really need to be that precise. I just used a step bit to enlarge the hole. It's got a seal anyways. Didn't matter though, fuel gauge took a shit anyways
