2018 300 RR - engine shutoff/display/odometer

Postby Trail Rider » Tue Jan 22, 2019 5:21 pm

Prior to winter hibernation, my engine shutoff was not working (start OK) & odometer reading in display stopped working. The rest of the display worked OK. I pulled off the cowling to look at the wring today. The larger 4-wire plug is from the engine switch & looks OK. I also looked at wiring bundled together down below by the frame & it looked OK.

The plug with the broken red wire doesnt seems to have anything to connect to? Any ideas? It just leads down into the wiring bundle abyss. What about that other 2-prong connection below it?

I’d have to double check but am pretty sure the “L” is for a flasher relay.

Well I feel a little dumb about that broken 2 wire connector - it is the odometer wire. Still working on the engine kill switch issue.

Keep chasing it. If you can't locate the problem peel back the cover on the wire harness by the steering lock. There is a big ground bundle in there, peel back the cover and look for broken wires, they're all black ground wires. If you go this far it's probably best to re-engineer the entire connection while you're in there.
