IMS 3.1 tank & main wiring loom?

Postby Dezzzmomike » Mon Apr 08, 2019 4:02 am

Has anyone else installed a EFI 3.1 gallon IMS tank on their RR-S and noticed that the main wire loom that runs on top of the frame gets pinched when installing this factory Beta accessory? If so, is there any other remedy than removing the entire friggin loom from the bike and attempting to re-route it under the frame IF it will even route that way?

Comments or suggestions from previous experience much appreciated.

Just today I finished installing the IMS 3.1 on my 19 500RRS. The harness will reach ok when routed to the lower side of the frame but is a pain in the butt to do and the most time consuming part of the tank install. Be careful when disconnecting the connectors, take pictures at disassembly and use dielectric grease at reassembly.

Thank you, I appreciate the feedback. Nice to know the loom will reach.

The instructions for the 4 gallon call for re-routing the wiring, maybe they neglected that on the 3.1. Good time to dielectric the connections and make sure everything is tidy.

Did the main wiring loom reroute this past weekend to get the loom underneath the frame and away from pinch points with the oversized tank. FYI, for anyone else doing this job be absolutely sure to label every connection clearly. Lots of connections as seen in the photo. Also, as mentioned above, a tube of dielectric grease for every connection while doing this job. A close inspection beforehand made me think it was better to remove the engine side harness. I recommend this and NOT the rear leading loom side. Also, expect 3-4 hours of time to tear down, label, reroute and reinstall if you are doing this first time.
