2019 390rr-s blowing fuses

Postby Seattle300rr » Tue Jul 09, 2019 9:30 am

My 390rr-s has been blowing one of the fuses under the seat on occasion. It seems to happen either when the bike is shut off or turned on. I can't figure out when it's popping the fuse. What I do know is this.

Sometimes when I turn the power on using the key the engine light does not come on. When I see that I know the bike will not start. The starter button does nothing at all. I check the fuses and one is blown. I tried recreating this problem by shutting the bike off in the 3 ways I know how.
1. turning the key to the off position
2. using the kill switch
3. holding the front brake and letting out the clutch while in gear

At home I can't recreate the problem but it happened to me twice on 1 ride and 4 times on another ride. Both times it happened I would say the bike was pretty warm but not over heating.

Couple other things I noticed was the speedo quit working and the fan is not coming on at 220 degrees.

Anybody have any ideas of what I should be checking?

I would take it to your dealer to look for a short in your wiring harness. Should be still under warranty

For what it's worth....
What is common to all of these; ground. Bad grounds can cause all kinds of stupid symptoms. But, when fuses blow, it's usually a short to........you guessed it, ground.

Don't get me wrong, this could be very hard to find. Good luck!

I checked the ground as best I can. Seems fine. I spoke with the dealer. I’m going to check a few things. I’ll report back.

I had the same issue on my 2017 390, bike would quit. Add a fuse, bike would start and run for a while. The culprit was a bad fan. A new fan from Beta is $258 here in Canada, but $81.00 on Amazon.

That was my problem too. The fan was seized and Beta covered it under warranty. I rode it all weekend, zero issues.

that's amazing how a bad fan can cause those electrical problems. My fan seized from dropping my bike and bent the mounting bracket. I had to remove one of the mounting bolts from the radiator so the fan could move freely again

If power goes to the fan and the fan can't move it creates a possible electrical fire. That's why we have fuses.. to stop a fire. Everything did what it was supposed to do.
