Capacitor & Diode potting

Postby NWEricr » Mon May 11, 2020 5:05 pm

After reading about all the capacitor and diode failures, I potted mine in epoxy. The leads on these components are solid wires that are susceptible to failure from work hardening due to vibration and movement. In harsh environments, these types of components are typically potted to stop movement. It also makes them completely waterproof.

I used a couple plastic tubes I found around the house to mold mine in clear epoxy. I waxed the tubes first to make removal easier after the epoxy set. After taking the photo, I dipped them in Plastidip to protect the epoxy from UV failure. Has anyone else tried this?

Looks pretty solid! Makes you wonder why Beta didn't do this. Seems they hired all their electrical designers at bus stops.
