Replacement Tail/Brake light for 2017 X-Trainer

Postby TripleThreat719 » Mon Jun 22, 2020 9:14 am

I recently purchased a used 2017 X-Trainer and need to replace the tail/brake light.

My search results indicated Part # 020-400308-000 is the same part for all 2011 - 2019 Enduro models. Just making sure that the X-Trainer is grouped into this Enduro Model lineup prior to ordering. Can anyone advise?

OK - So... I called a dealer to verify that part# 020-400308-000 was the correct light for the 2017 X Trainer and was told yes. I ordered the part. When it arrived, I went to install it and the plug doesn't match.

The one on the light is a three conductor triangular plug.

The one on the bike is a two conductor rectangular plug.

Anyone else experience this, or have a 2017 X Trainer and can verify what plug is on their tail light?

I replaced the tail light on my "16 RR with an aftermarket light I found for under $20. Can't remember the exact details other than I believe it was spec'd for Yamaha WR. Brighter than the stock light and way cheaper. I just spliced the plug from the original onto the replacement. I guess I'd just make sure the new light you have bolts up correctly then just splice the connector.

Honda CRF250 rear light is the same. They are about $10-15.

You might have to cut off your original connector and swap them over.

My issue isn't the light, or wiring up a different connector... It appears that the stock wiring only has two conductors in the connector and the light has three (which would be required for a brake light function, I would think).

Wondering if others only have two conductors going to the tail light...

So - The stock tail and brake light does have three contacts and what they sent me was correct. The two contact connector tucked up under the inner fender panel is actually for a license plate light... The actual tail/brake light connector was not tucked up under the fender like the turn light connections and the license plate light connector. It was actually up under the seat near the right side plastic, zip tied to a frame member.

I now have working tail, brake and turn lights, which will make it so that I can connect a bunch of single track trails via public roads, which is common for events near where I live. You have to have a street legal bike to be able to get between the good stuff...

This will be awesome!
