2020 300 Race starting/electrical issue

Postby thumperrider1 » Wed May 05, 2021 5:58 am

Hi, I just picked up a used 2020 300 Race and it has some starting issues I could use some help with. When I picked it up the battery was dead from the bike sitting too long we thought. The bike bump starts fine. It did start once using the button after that but then it just clicks on subsequent tries.

I installed a new fully charged Antigravity 8 cell. The relay clicks but starter does not spin.

I checked voltage on starter side of relay when pushing the button. It was getting around 5v. I disconnected the hot wire from the starter and could get 12+V to the end of the wire. When I direct connect a battery to the starter it does nothing.

Is there anything else I can try? I've ordered a new starter and am not looking forward to swapping it out. :)

Thanks!

Sounds like it could very well be the starter motor.

Have you removed ignition cover and checked the bendix. The bushings could be dry and or worn out.
There is another post in general section earlier this year about this. Worth checking.

Thanks. Yes pulled that side and it all looked good and bendix was functioning ok. re-oiled it and buttoned it up. Have a new starter arriving Monday. That's going to be a fun job.
