BETA 200RR 2023 VOLTAGE DROPS WITH FAN

Postby sanvillega » Tue Apr 16, 2024 5:21 am

Hi to all,

When I'm driving and the fan turns on, the voltage drops to 10 volts and the battery stops charging. Of course, on complex trails this causes the battery to discharge when using it for ignition. Any idea what it could be. I already changed the battery and the behavior is the same

This is probably to be expected if the FAN is on and the revs are at idle as there is not enough energy generated at the Stator.
Have you tried revving it up a bit and see if the voltage goes to acceptable values ?
To be honest I don't know if my 300 does the same thing as I never checked the voltages during FAN operation, I may do that on the WE if I manage to have time to mount the exhaust and stuff to power it back on (I did not start my bike since the accident on 13th of January)

Cheers.

PS. Maybe the 200 does have a smaller wattage stator than the 300, very possible, let me check the manual...

Ok looks like 125 / 200 / 300 share the same stator: 026.10.005.00.00

So the 200 should be able to generate the same amount of power as the bigger sister.

One question, do you need the FAN often ? I read that the 200 is generating a lot less heat then the bigger 300 and that a FAN is most of the times not needed ?

Thanks, not really all the time, but when I do technical trails it turns on several times and since the battery stops charging, if the trail is too long the starter will also die.

I tried with another battery, with another fan and the same thing. I checked the stator and it is good. The only thing I need to try is another regulator.

Yes, I tried, by the same, the voltage fluctuares between 10 Volts and 11 Voltas, maximum 11.8V

That looks way to low , maybe your issue really is the regulator then. I could still not bring my bike to live to measure that, maybe this week...

So I finally had time this WE to start my Beta after 3,5 month of inactivity, it started right up and I measured the voltages:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYG5hEAbgNA

It started at 13.13V with the engine OFF, then tropped just below 13 for a few seconds and stabilized around 13,10V with the FAN OFF and around 13V with the FAN ON.

So I would say in your case you have an issue somewhere, most probably the voltage regulator.

Ref: 11 27.28101.000
RECTIFIER, ENGINE 250/400/450/525 EXC
Price: $100.53

The price is shocking to me honest, If I needed one I would probably try some generic ones or from another brand...

Cheers !

It cost about 70€ here in Spain, just check with your available online retailers:
