7mm sachs shims - what sizes should I make?

Postby Keg » Wed Dec 17, 2014 2:49 pm

Seeing it is so hard to buy individual 7mm id shims, I am going to get a few hundred made.

What sizes does everyone want?
Order is going in for January. I should have done this years ago when I had a Gasgas.

Maybe I will make up some mini kits based around common valving mods/settings when I work out what they genereally need. And then I can also sell loose ones too if I can keep the price down by buying in bulk.

Never mind - I'm finishing tooling that will allow us to make any size in any quantity. ;)

Is it possible to cut the taps for 6mm shims, or will they be too thin?

There have been efforts to sleeve the taps to allow use of 8mm shims, but then the issue becomes how long to make the sleeve. If you cut the tap to use 6mm shims you need to re-cut the thread as well, and you still need to sleeve the ID of the piston.

My shim guy has enough tooling to cut 7mm shims. How many u want?

I have seen a suspension shop just use 8mm shims and carefully centre them before tightening the nut.
It worked fine and never moved in a fair few hours of riding.

For experimenting with your own bike fine, but to charge a customer good $$ for crap like that is just wrong. All tuners are not created equal.

The tools are complete and ready to go. Send me a PM with the diameters and thicknesses you want.
