Suspension setup for motocross?

Postby Mmac » Tue Sep 08, 2015 3:30 pm

Hi all I have a 2015 300 race that's has done 17 hours, I'm doing a motocross this weekend and am looking to stiffen up my suspension front and rear from the factory settings as there way to soft for me. Has anyone got any magic clicker positions for me?

I've done some MX tracks as part of harescrambles races. No specifics as mine is a '13 and valved different, but in general use the PFP adjuster on the fork, and a bit more HS and LS on the shock to balance. Start with 1 turn more PFP than you run for woods, and take it from there. A bit more rebound F&R as well.

Thanks mate, iv gone 2 turns in on the pfp and 4 all round on all the clickers but I'm still bottoming on jumps. Should I just keep cranking up on the clickers till it stops?

Yep. GMP gives good advise. From off road to moto on my bike I go 8 clicks stiffer on compression front and rear, 1 turn stiffer on pfp and depending on the track I will go stiffer on hs compression in back if needed. Usually 1-2 clicks in on rebound.

Cheers timber I'll give it a go. Do you go any more rebound on the front or just 8 more on the compression and an extra turn on the pfp?

Yeah 1-2 slower rebound front and rear.

Maybe it's my ignorance, but I switch back and forth from all kinds of riding and changing the clickers is not something I switch when I do.

Forks feel great everywhere. Sachs 2015. Really.

I've got a 2014 Beta 250rr and I feel like the suspension is too soft when I ride motocross. What is pfp and where on the bike can it be found?

PFP is Progressive Floating Piston, a patented feature of the Marzocchi 48mm CC forks on the Race Edition bikes that allows the rider to adjust fork preload on the fly via knobs on top of the forks. (Sachs OC and CC forks don't have this feature.)

Ah, my one is not the race edition. Any tips anyway? I felt like the suspension was soaking up too much especially over the whoops. My instincts are that the suspension needs to be stiffer so that I can skim over bumps more and I think I am a bit heavier than what the stock suspension is set up for anyway. I am 90kg (nearly 200lb) without gear. I am into bodybuilding so it's muscle not fat, if that makes a difference.
