They are not the SSS fork from 2004. I'm not up on KX specs off hand, but likely just open chambers, or the AOS fork at best. Even talking SSS forks only, there are many different versions for the different mfgs, and even for different bikes of the same mfg.

IN that era they may even be bumper forks. Late model KX450Fs (prior to air) had AOSS (aka SSS) type internals, but you'd have to pay attention to upper and lower clamping diameters and fork lug offset.

Thanks guys. I might make some measurement and grab them if they fit. I can get them for $100 so it's not a huge investment. I have some GG and husky wheels/rotor combinations available. It might turn in to a fun little project for for the sake of trying something new.

Find out exactly what they are, the lug offset, and the tube clamping dias. Length too. It is more than likely not worth your while. The KYB SSS is a great fork, and makes the job worth it, but that is not the case for a 10 yr old OC fork of unknown condition. Save your $100 and just watch ebay for something to come up when your ready. JMO.

Maybe I'll just do that. I would rather save myself 100 bucks and a bunch of work than wind up with a setup worse than my properly sprung and trouble free Sachs stuff. $100 takes a chunk out of revalving as well...

I have a question, trying to understand the lug offset. Now when the lug offset is different it is actually just that amount difference in wheelbase, but when the triple clamp has a different offset doesn't that make a much larger difference in wheelbase?

They are additive, and change trail, which has a huge effect on handling. Wheelbase is also changed slightly but is less influencial. Many things going on together.
