As I wrote, the new 49 comes with a KYB-like plastic floating piston which in the long run may need replacement.
Also the cartridge shaft aluminum colored coating doesn't look as hard as the older gold color ones.
I had another small problem when removing the 2nd cartridge from the fork. After unfastening the base (rebound) adjuster, I had a tool holding part of the cartridge outside of the fork in order to unfasten the adjuster itself from the cartridge.
When the cartridge nut came to the end of the shaft threads it was jumping and was not possible to create enough counter force to unfastened the adjuster.
At the end I had to compress the fork more to have more shaft protruding out of the axle lug and then hold it still with the aid of RT shaft jaws in a vise.
Turns out that the nut had pulled some of its threads on the upper, shaft side.
Obviously this may be an isolated example but have never happened before.

Some models of the CRF had KYB forks can't remember which ones maybe the 450. I don't remember working on any 48mm Showa's but they do exist I see.
