Sachs shock missing the cap

Postby Johnny Depp » Wed Mar 20, 2019 6:38 pm

Imagine my surprise when after prepping the bike all day and fixing a flat, when I realize the shock has a big hollow reservoir and I can reach in and touch the separator piston. Apparently the cap with the nitrogen port held by a circlip fell off at some point, who knows when. I expected that the oil would have blown out, but apparently the separator has it's own circlip. Now my question, those parts are gone, maybe I'll go for a bladder since the parts are likely scarce. Idea's?

FYI, the shock had been rebuilt a few years back, so it was not any kind of defect AFAIK.

Send it to Beta factory suspension tuning and have them add what you need and revalve. Kill 2 birds with one stone. You already have stiffer springs for your weight. Maybe do the forks too. I might do the same with my 15’ Beta. Or get your dealer / tuner to order the parts.

I think the route you take might depend on the parts you can get.

A bladder kit might be cheaper in the end.

Thanks Steve, that was quick and easy.
Now I need to find the info on Glen's modification of the shaft length and have my local guy do the same when he has it apart. It seems he recommended a ball bearing at the base?

The 13 shocks were a standalone - the 14 and subsequent shocks are longer.

I hadn't heard that before. Never the less, my '15 4t has had me chasing front end traction for a long time, and continued reviews by testers come to the same conclusion. It still makes sense for me so I'll try it.
