Marzocchi CC fork settings

Postby EZZA » Tue Oct 08, 2019 2:51 pm

Sorry to drag this up as I know there's many posts on different settings for these forks. I'm looking at trying to set these forks up without having them revalved.

I've done a a lot of reading and basically there's two common settings:
Either PFP @ 0-1 turns from fully out and comp around 12
OR PFP 2 turns with 20 comp (factory setting).

At the moment I run PFP @ 2 turns and comp about 11. Feels ok but a tad harsh for our regular rotted/rocky single track in Australia.

Wondering if I back PFP all the way out and run more comp + reb of leaving it a 2 turns in and back comp + rebound right off (20 clicks)?

Use 1-1,5 turns, comp -18 to 20, reb - 16 to 18 for hard terrain.
7.5 wt oil (20 to 25 cst), inspect and/or replace regularly (30 hrs).

DON'T use excess force trying to set pfp at 0 turns, when it starts getting tight, stop.
Don't ask why....

Great thanks for the response! Will give it a try this weekend. Yes I plan on changing oil every 30 hours or so but so far at 140hrs my suspension guy says internally the forks are looking great.

The rear feels pretty nice and doesn't do anything weird and is currently set at: 18C, 18R and 17HS

So gave these settings a go on the weekend, first thing I noticed was at 16 clicks out i could feel the lack of rebound control up front, went 4 clicks slower (12 out) and it felt a lot more planted. Still feels fairly harsh up front in the trail trash/rocks & doesn't appear to be using all the travel so may try PFP at 0 turns, comp and rebound at about 12....
Maybe when I change the oil I'll give 5wt a try as others have done also.

I have my PFP at zero turns and use 7wt Maxima. I run my comp and rebound fairly loose but I'm old and slow.

Yeah they definitely feel better with fresh oil.
I don't consider myself to be super fast either, I think that's part of the problem. These forks (like most CC forks) respond very well to being ridden hard/aggressive but most can't keep that pace up all day, once you slow down the pace they start to beat you up :o

So rode again last weekend with new settings on these standard forks.
PFP: 0
COMP: 12
REB:8
Went out for a few hour ride of our most rocky/rooted out singletrack where before the bike was extremely hard and tiring to ride deflecting off everything. Happy to say was so much better with the PFP at 0 and the comp + reb wound in more to compensate. Bike soaked up the trail trash so much better, had a few faster 3rd/4th gear sections in there too and it didn't do anything too weird which is nice.
Next move will be to replace oil in outer chambers with fresh 5WT Motul Racing fluid and see how it goes 8-)
