Older model shock spring to 2020 shock model

Postby Leon_RR250 » Tue Nov 05, 2019 4:48 am

Hi!

I have traded my 300 2018 to a new standard 2020 250 and I am keeping the 5.4 spring. I remember I read here or on thumpertalk that the spring from the older shock can fit on the 2020 shock. I think it was Hubert that wrote about it. I cannot find this post again. Can you Hubert or somebody else give some details of the process about it? How much it needs to be compressed? I am receiving the bike on Saturday and I would like to change the spring and adjust the carb for winter before the break in process.

Best Regards,

Leon

yes, you should be good to go. here is the language from Beta's parts site:

'13 250RR / '19 200RR / '22 200RE

The 2020 shock spring length is unchanged at 260mm but some idiot shortened the shock body without extending the preload adjuster range. As a result, you need to compress the spring to release the bottom collar. An easily avoided PITA.

I have also clarified with Sierra Motorsports that the Xtrig preload adjuster from the 19, fits the 2020 also. Should anyone other than me be interested. :D

Even if the Xtrig would screw on the body of the 2020, and you could get the spring compresses enough to get on, you would have a considerable amount of preload. With a shorter spring maybe.

Are you saying, that the only spring that will fit on the new shock is the one that comes on it? That any additional weight springs don't have enough room to have the correct preload?

I don't think it would be a problem as long as the x-trig unit is not massively thicker than the 2 standard preload adjusters. It may make the spring fitment more of a PITA.

Okay, the Xtrig adjuster is about the same as the two locking collars together.
