Standard settings for suspension of 2020 300RR

Postby Johnr37us » Tue Dec 15, 2020 1:44 am

I recently purchased a used 2020 Beta 300 rr. I need to put a heavier springs on the back and as I was already going to be Putting in heavier springs I figured I might as well change the fork oil. Can someone please advise me on what type of oil to use and how much is the air chamber length for the front forks. Thank you, John

Congrats on the new bike!

Any quality name brand 5wt will work well. I personally use KYB 01M. A good alternative would be Maxima blue label 5wt.

140-80mm from the top tube will work fine. I tend to set a lot of my riders at the 120mm mark as a good starting point. This gives some adjustment for more or less bottoming resistance.

Before purchasing springs, I would suggest checking out my spring charts for reference. They are a much better match compared to Betas suggested springs. Just be sure to take into account the installed preload on the forks. Even with the adjuster backed fully out, I have seen above 12mm of preload. Which is excessive for most use cases.

Aaron also has an update for that shock, it's inexpensive and makes an incredible difference on the 20-21's .

Thank you for all your help and actually I found your spring rate chart before I ordered my springs and that’s what I used to make my decision so thank you for that also.

Sure thing! Just be sure to set the preload at an acceptable amount. About 5mm is a good starting point.

Install the shock spring with about 8-10mm of preload. This will get your sag numbers about spot on.

Good luck!
