Shock Spring Rate

Postby Clearvu1 » Sun Apr 11, 2021 4:24 pm

So, just got off the bike. 100mm of race sag nets 45mm of static. I'd like to get that to about 30-35 static so I need a softer spring. 2016 250RR, manual says it's a 5.2, Beta spring chart says it's a 5.2, the Beta parts catalogue says it's a 5.4 and Race Tech says it's a 5.5 but that I need a 5.2. Can anybody say for certain what spring came with it? I bought the bike new so it's the original spring. Then, how much difference in static sag will I realize going 1 spring size lighter? I'm 160 lbs in street clothes, probably 172 give or take in full gear. I know, the chart says I should be ok with the stock spring but 100/45 isn't right.

The OEM spring for that bike is a 5.2kg/mm.

A step softer should get you around the 35-40mm static ballpark.

Its possible the stock spring is either out of tolerance or spec'd improperly. It happens on occasion.

When checking sag numbers, be sure to follow this method as its much more consistent.
