2020 Beta 300 Race Edition spring advice

Hi,

I'm picking up a 2020 300 Race Edition this weekend. It's been revalved/sprung front and rear for a 200lb guy. I'm 170lbs with no gear and am slow B and race haresrambles and NEGP terrain.

The shock tuner advised to try and use a 5.2 spring which is stock I believe. I've not been able to contact the tuner that did the forks yet but was thinking of using either .44's or .42's.

Can anyone help me determine a rate to try?

I would recommend a pair of .44 for the forks and a 5.4 for the rear.

This is assuming average height and average gear.

I'm a tad lighter at around 162 or so. I found that I was getting excessive static sag numbers on the stock 5.2 spring on my 250RR and the rear felt pretty firm no matter what I did with the clickers. At 100mm race sag I was getting close to 45mm of static. I found a used 4.9 spring from a Yamaha YZ250 and used a Factory Connection collar adapter to fit it. Now, I get about 35mm static sag at 100mm of race, which is about right, and the bike feels much better, not exactly plush but better than it was for sure. It is possible, I'm told, that the stock Beta spring may not have actually tested at 5.2 rate, I don't know. According to Beta's sprig chart the 5.2 should have worked for my weight in riding gear, but it didn't. If you can get your hands on one, I'd suggest trying a 5.0 and see what sag settings it nets. Thanks for the replies. I am not sure what's in the bike or what the valving changes were on both ends.

I have a 5.2 and .42's to try and will order a 5.4 and .44's to try out as well and report back.

AMP if needed I will send out for revalve to you since you do a lot of work on these newer chassis bikes.

Spring accuracy can be an issue from some manufacturers. As quality increases, so does the accuracy generally speaking.

I have seen springs commonly test outside their labeled rate. Time is money and it takes time to test each spring.

Most riders will find the stock setup harsh. The KYB forks have aggressive damping on initial movement. The shock has a lack of low speed damping(chassis control) and an excess of high speed damping(wheel movement/harshness/kicking).

Springs are a must and my first recommendation. If springs do not result in acceptable performance, valving is the next step.

These bikes can be made to perform incredibly well with logical design corrections and valving tailored to suit.
