fork cap rebound adjuster

2018 300rr-sachs open cartridge fork. The rebound adjuster started spinning freely. I took the cap apart, you can see what came out. Clearly the smaller brass piece fits into the slot you can see in the cap. For the larger brass piece, it gets screwed into the cap. Its a pain to do, but there is really no solid connection point between the 2 pieces & the rebound adjuster still spins freely. Any ideas?
