Ohlins TTX for Sachs....

Postby redrider » Thu Oct 09, 2014 12:38 am

After speaking with Ohlins USA I was under the impression that after SACHS made changes to their forks in 2012, Ohlins no longer made inserts for their forks. Well it seems they offer them in Europe....

A little pricey with the current exhange rate ~ 1.28

Holy crap that's pricey! I remember ohlins USA having closeouts in 12/13 and the ttx22 cartridges were 700us.

Better off using KYB's or get a Race edition!

I never drank the TTX coolaide. Big $$ and not as easy to support with a very limited knowledge base. Maybe more common in Europe but around here no one uses that stuff, even our top AAs that could run anything they want. I think after the PFP Marzocchi came out, the consensus was it was better. Part of the attraction of the KYBs is the expansion of parts availability and tuning options, not to mention the performance capability thats above the skill level of all of us here. If you already have them lying around then sure, but to buy them now with other options available?

I have fitted a Boano-Andreanni TTX kit to a 2013 RR fork.
Never ridden it but I think I would agree with thumperider above.

I don't really like TTX finish and installation, especially that safety wire on the bottom and the way that the inside bottom piece is attached to the outer.
Not to mention the top cap and the mess with the 3 (2 allen, 1 torx) screws for damping, air bleed and nitrogen.

Not fun of this kind of engineering....

I have both the TTX inserts in a set of 2010 Sachs and a set of 2012 KYB SSS from a yz450f. The TTX are coming back from suspension tuner in about a week (Solid Performance, Pa.). I haven't touched the KYBs yet. Putting GG forks on a Beta looks a little easier than the KYBs at the moment, but the plan is to have the KYBs set up to use as well so the TTX can go back on the GG for sale. Maybe I should have just waited for the Race Edition...

I have TTX inserts in my 48mm Zokes (2011 Nambotin 300) and they're great (came with the bike). Best forks I've run yet. I think the TTX Cartridges are great, but more complicated/expensive to maintain. No way I'd pay what Boano is asking for those if I can get the 48mm Zokes for about the same price. Just thought it was interesting to find them being made.

I've never had a problem with my ttx! I actually thought they were of fabulous quality and super easy to service yourself. Ive ridden both the 48's and ttx and I don't think one is superior over the other personally.

I like the Zoke 48s a lot, but the KYBs set up properly are at least as good. I'd guess Showas would be as well.
I fix and service stuff for my brother and friends. This year alone I fixed two damaged lower tubes. One was almost not fixable. It was a KYB, so no big deal getting a new one if needed. eBay or even a TNK aftermarket is an option. What if that was a Sachs tube? Doesn't matter what cartridge is inside then.

By the way.....

As I found out about a year and a half later, the Boano-sourced TTX cartridges, were converted.
Specifically the closed chamber support was not fone with gas pressure but was converted to an ICS spring design.
This was done by Andreanni on Boano's request as they believe that for enduro work (with many small bumps and generally a wider type of riding environment than an mx track...) this setting is more sensitive and works better than the nitrogen pressurized closed chamber.

I am not sure if they still are using ICS springs over gas, this was a 2012 MY cartridge kit.

Certainly you can buy this only from Boano....

Interesting, but for an average racer in the US, I don't think you could come up with a more difficult fork to support if you tried!
