Sachs Suspension Manuals

Postby Hubert Carpet » Mon Oct 07, 2013 12:04 am

Does anyone have workshop manuals for the forks and shock on the 2014 300 RR? I have the 2013/4 engine manual that I am happy to trade.

My 300 now has about 500 miles on it and I want to strip, check and re-oil.

Can't help you with the Sachs manual but would love to have a copy of your engine manual.

Thanks, I'm used to WP forks. I'm finding the front end very hard and am not using all the travel yet, although the forks are "running in" a bit.

Same problem with Beta's recommended oils not being readily available or common brands in the UK. I was going to try 7.5W oil when I change it, the Beta original appears to be 10W and I was used to 5W in the WPs on my last KTM. Motul Factory Line worked very well.

Any suggestions on this? I generally ride in rocky, hilly areas in the UK with a lot of fist sized rocks that move around under the tyres. The current setup tracks pretty well but hammers your upper body after a day's riding of 100-120 miles.

My Sacks forks were the same, doesn't seem like stiction, just seem like they have motor oil in them, get the forks revalved, your shoulders back will thank you.

The shock is ok but I ran out of adjustment on mine, FYI a KTM WP or aftermarket shock can be made to fit on the 14' 2t in about an hour.

Get a viscosity chart of all modern suspension fluids and match what is recommended or mix accordingly. Sachs shock is pretty good, for my speed anyway, and its still stock. Zoke fork is very good but I knew that. Overall I think the suspension is very good for OEM, with a technical trail bias, which is an oddity. Most stock bikes are horrible in the rocks. This one is quite versatile.

One suspension guy in the UK who has a 13 300 was finding that the shock was losing gas pressure pretty quickly, about 40 psi in a month.

One thing I will say is that the faster you ride, the better the suspension is but slower terrain is more taxing. I had the suspension on my last bike sorted and could hit most things with confidence. The Beta back end is so much better than the PDS system although I'm not looking forward to servicing the linkage

Beta linkage service is easy, and not an everyday thing with good grease to start. As far as the shock, I had a Sachs on an '07 GasGas and to tell you the truth once it was gone through I liked it better than the Ohlins on my '12 GasGas. It's a quality shock.

I'd love to have the engine manual myself.

Thanks, Bill.

Hubert if you look closely in the parts dia( available in the support section in Beta's site) you
will find that on 2014s, the suggested fork oil is SAE 6.1 and the reason for this strange number
that they are using a particular hydraulic oil from Shell which is not
available commercially as a fork oil.
Although personally i am using now only NILS oils (Honda MX1 technical sponsor) in the past
i have used Motul Expert line 5w in my 2007 EXC 300 and they were great (the oil not the forks)
and long lasting so I guess the 5W is a good choice.
However it should be mentioned that Sachs generally need 10 hours+ to be run-in so you may
need to wait a little time more.
Also take special care on dismantling the top cap, Beta has issued a technical bulleting
for this work so its better to ask your dealer.

Rocky in UK.... I guess you are located in Wales or Scotland
