Headlight/Front #plate swap

Postby kectb24 » Thu Jan 05, 2017 9:51 am

Hello fellow Beta owners.
After recently picking up a 2014 300rr, Ive been doing minor mods to get the bike suited for my riding. Which leads me to my question about the #plate. I don't ride the street and I dont ride on the trails at night so I dont really need a headlight. I admit, the headlight is easier for oncoming riders to see in the woods but I very rarely ride point in the group of people I ride with.
However, I do love the computer and want to keep it. Before I dive into installing which will require some modifications of course... Id like to hear from Beta riders on what they did. What worked and especially what didn't work.
Thanks guys

i'm still looking to make this mod as well. there are various ways to keep the computer while running the MX plate but the nicest option i've seen to date was using a KTM computer bracket. it keeps the location the same but moves it up and out of the way.

i don't remember the part number but if you search here and TT you might find it. OR, someone might chime in. if i find the PN in my notes i'll post up.

the other option i had in mind is to integrate the computer into a bar pad. that would be super sano :D

this has been done before. Just need to use a heat gun at the base where the number plate meets the fender to get it to squat a little to get the mounting hole to line up

I have done this to my bike ('16 300RR) and it works great.

I have not integrated it into the bar pad, but simply made a bracket out of a piece of aluminium angle and fitted it to that. I prefer this option as it keeps it nicely tucked away behind the number plate out of harms (and muds) way.

If anyone is interested, I can take some photos and post them up on the forum.

Drill a small hole in the speedo bracket to allow access to the m6 hole in the top triple clamp then mount number plate with a long enough bolt. Job done!!

Nice one Brummy. It would appear I have managed to completely over complicate and engineer a solution once again.

I used a inch and a half piece of aluminum angle and came out with a clean look
