IMS tank

Looking for more range on the 300RR. Anyone using the IMS tank? How is the fitment? How much does it change the ergonomics/feel of the bike? What is the avg. range your getting? Thanks.

I ordered the Ims 3.2 gal tank when I ordered the '14 300rr, so I did not use the 2.5 gal oem tank. My dealer already had the Ims installed when I got there to pick it up. He couldn't get the reserve petcock on the tank to stop leaking, so we pulled it and installed another Ims tank on the bike. It was a success, no leaks. The Ims is holding up well. It isn't quite as robust imo ( plastic is thinner). It mounts a little different, but is secure. The seat fits it well. U will have to trim your radiator shrouds just a tiny bit with a dremel where they join at the top, just below the gas cap.
After reading Hawkeyes tip on removing the steering stop nuts, I went ahead and did the same. The bike turns tighter now, but the sharp edges of the upper triple clamps need to be rounded smooth or they will cut into the front of tank. My longest ride so far was 107 miles of a mixture of forest svc roads, and singletrack. And I still had a little left over. This bike gets good gas mileage.

Holy smoke! I rode my bike Saturday at Brown Mountain right out side of Morganton NC. It was a good mixture of single track and four wheeler wide trails and I had to go to reserve at 35.9 miles with the stock 2 gallon tank. Either I'm a major throttle jockey (not) or I'm loosing gas some how. Maybe I need to check my float level or something. My jetting is stock and the bike seemed to run nearly perfect, but I'm not an expert when it comes to jetting and carb stuff.

Nope, 36 miles is just about exactly what you can expect from the stock 2.0 gallon tank. And yes, the jetting is delicious.

You must have totally different riding conditions/altitudes to the UK or you are running much lower gearing.

I regularly go 60-70 miles between fills on the standard 2014 9.5 litre tank without hitting reserve. I should be able to do 85-90 on a full tank.

I would check float height. When mine was new it would dribble some gas out from just the movement from kickstarting the bike. Imagine as you are riding how much is being lost. I know all the manuals state that the float should be level with the carb body when held at 60 degrees (including KTM) but I always set mine a tad lower.

A small catch bottle would confirm if you are getting overflow.

Could someone post a pic of their Beta 300/250 with the IMS tank?
