Beta/KTM chain guide mount comparison

Postby GMP » Sun Jan 26, 2014 6:47 pm

Anyone have or have access to a newer KTM to compare/measure the chain guide mounts to the Beta? Looks exactly the same to me at a glance. I'd like to run a better, stiffer guide like the BRP, but the swingarm tabs (rear one) look a bit wimpy like the KTM. Bulletproof designs has a reinforcement plate for the KTM that will probably fit but I'd like to be sure. Thanks.

I can help, do you just need center to center ?

I also have the beta BRP guide hanging on the wall.

Thanks guys. Yeah, hole centers and fit if you can. Only thing still vulnerable on my bike and my stock chain guide is roughed up a bit. I bet the KTM, Sherco, and Beta swingarms come from the same factory, maybe even the Beta factory!

I have recently fitted a TM Designworks guide. I have had TM guide on my KTMs and they are a "must have" on my bikes. I had a worn TM guide from my last KTM but it wouldn't fit the Beta. TM provide KTM guides as part of the PowerParts catalogue now and they work out a bit cheaper that way.

The Beta mounts are not particularly strong and the TM guide acts as a reinforcement by encasing the mount in the guide. I found that I had to bend the mounts a little to straighten them when fitting the TM guide after only 600 miles.

Just measured a KTM guide at 98mm centres and the Beta at 75mm. The KTM guide was from a 2011 PDS model and is a much larger unit altogether.

Can you link exactly which one you used?

I'm interested in the BPD alloy bracket that bolts across the tabs AND to the bottom of the swingarm, then any guide that fits is good. A plastic guide alone cannot protect the tab from a good side hit.

That's the KTM guide.

GMP, in 7 years of riding in rocks with TM guides, I have never had any issues with the mounts getting damaged because of the way they are protected by the guide. The guide has always gone off and on easily.

I'll break it eventually. I've bent Ironman sprockets, torn off pegs, torn skid plates half off and a bunch of other stuff. It looks weak and the only reason it did not break yet is the stock guide is soft and flexes. It appears that all the stiffer TM guide does different is wrap the rear tab in plastic on each side, rather than bolt to one side. You could make that as thick as you want but the load is still on a single tab. I don't think that is a replacement for the billet reinforcement bracket that also bolts to the bottom of the swingarm. If a KTM guide fits a Beta, then the reinforcement plate should as well. Either that or another home brew solution.
