Gear shifter

Postby redbone477 » Sun Feb 09, 2014 6:53 pm

Having a little trouble finding a happy spot for the shifter. The way it came stock it's a little high, moved it down to the next notch it's a little to low. I wear size 13 boot just for info. Is any body else having this issue? What's the fix? Is there something after market? Thanks for any info.

Anything for a Honda CRF250. A MAPP torch and some carefully applied force does a god job of fine adjusting offset.

Is it a recent 2010-2014 CRF 250 shifter? Do you know if the length is a little shorter than the stock Beta on the 2 stroke rr? The Beta shifter is longer than most.

I think shifter is too long also and have been searching for something shorter for a while with no luck.

I'm in the process of cleaning house getting ready to move. Came across a shifter from my old 2001 CR 250. It fits the Beta and is a little shorter than stock. The bolt orientation is not as good as the stock shifter but can still get it on ok.

I have the cheap cast Hammerhead shifter for a late model CRF250 in my spares box. It is shorter by approx 10mm, but I did not measure it. I like the stock shifter and will get the billet Hammerhead with longer tip when it wears out.

A hydraulic press will do the trick, just go slow, use rounded supports, and don't go crazy on how much you bend it.

As an aside the tip on my original/100hr shifter is getting slightly loose, so I will be in the machine shop shortly to render a new one. Once a stock pivot tip is done offsets should be easy, both taller and longer or shorter.

A little heat with a MAPP torch helps too.

I put a Hammer Head for a CRF250 on my 300. It fits well except it sticks out from the case about an inch more than the stock shifter. Hasn't really been an issue so far.

Is this the original high quality Hammerhead shifter or the cheapo cast one for around $30? I picked up the cheap one for a spare before a trip. It does look like it sticks out a little more but not quite an inch. Also looks like it will snap off easy.
