250 or 300? Glad to have gone in the direction i did...

So I'm late 40's, 6' 4", OK shape, 215 lbs (need to drop a few!) used to race motocross many years ago, and also ride a CRF450X. So if i am brutally honest i must admit i am chasing a little bit of yesteryear and wanted a 2 stroke for that wonderful power band hit. I also wanted a bike that would need some clutch to throw it into power band and would rev nice and high... Also i wanted a "flickable" light weight machine to decrease the fatigue and increase the fun factor. But still needed to be very capable at Pacific NW singe track.... So after lots of online research i went for the 250 not the 300.
For me the 250 has provided everything i was looking for and some, my biggest reservation was if i would regret not having bottom end grunt to lug through single track that the 300 excels at. I don't know how much 'lug" riders need but for me this 250 is incredible. It pulls smooth even if you are in the wrong gear (yep i'm being honest i do screw up) - it really doesn't want to stall no matter what you do wrong or where you go, its that good! Then when i think i am 20 years younger it can be ridden like a full power banding motocross bike (which is for about 5 mins of an average days riding). I told myself if i out grew the 250 i would put a 300 top end on the bike in the future. As of now, i really cant see myself doing that...i am having a blast on my 250!

my 250 once I corrected the float and the jetting the bike will lug very well, I am near 300lbs and lugging up hills is not a issue and I don't have to play with the clutch much..
I feel like the 250 will rev a bit quicker than the 300...
but this is like a overplayed record...
250 vs 300 beta...........

either is good.. the rider makes it great.

This is pretty well the story of me and my 250 to a tee. I expected to want the 300, but I really am starting to like the 250 and can't see anything being a better mix of pros and cons.

Great that you love the 250! I love my 300 but after riding my friends 250rrs I know what you mean about how good they are. I still give an edge to my 300 rr but I could see that if I got a 250 Id be happy as well.

I wanted a 250. i wasn't sure why, I just did. I missed out on a 2nd hand 250 Racing Edition that was just dripping with accessories.

I thought about converting my 300, it isn't that expensive. I doubt I ever would though.

Just to be different maybe.
