My New 2015 300RR...

Postby Duffy » Tue Dec 16, 2014 9:20 am

This may be premature after only an hour and half on my new bike… but this machine is a beast! I’m coming off a 2001 KX 250 and even though the Beta is a bit heavier it actually feels lighter. Kid at Christmas best describes my initial experience. The only issues I had was somehow my right side frame guard cracked all to hell??? And where the exhaust connects to the silencer at rubber donut, it was blowing fuel/oil all over the engine??? Maybe need to zip tie or possibly the bike is still breaking in???

Mixed: 110 race fuel 2gal to 87 3gal +/- 96 octane
Gas to Oil Ratio 50:1
AIR screw 1 turn out
Pilot Jet 38
Needle N2ZW
Clip 3rd from top
Main Jet 170
Elevation +/- 1000
Temperature 20-45 degrees

Maybe your boot pressure broke the guard. I trimmed mine down a lot before I rode the bike, no problems. Its a rare 2stroke that doesn't leak from the silencer joint. Check alignment of the coupler and zip tie it.

If that is the stock jetting it is probably way rich with your race gas blend. That stock motor should work perfectly on pump gas.

So what you guys are saying is that I should just run pump gas? Also the carb setting is not factory, the shop re-set it for colder weather per Beta spec.

On a different note I need to beef this bike up for single track riding, what rad braces do you reccommend? I was looking at the Enduro Engineering braces. The reviews were not good stating the braces stuck out from half inch to inch on each side causing issues for bolting plastic back up.

As Always thanks for the input

Radiator braces are like handguards a little bit - everybody has different needs. The best thing about the Beta braces is the color ... enough said.

The EE braces are OK, and I think they have their fitment issues dialed finally. Pretty decent unless you're dropping your bike off cliffs.

Unabiker seems to take the cake (currently) for full rad coverage and lateral strength.

As far as the gas goes, run the cleanest stiff you can find (non-ethanol) and you should be fine at 91 octane (R+M/2; US standard). The Beta jetting chart has proved to be very robust, so if teh dealer altered jetting according to the chart you're good to go.

I had Unibiker rad guards on a DRZ, very robust, DAMHIK. When I started riding ktm 400 exc, I went with Bullet Proof guards. So you'd recommend Unabiker over BPD? I like that Una's are half the price!

We have been beating this topic to death lately in a couple different threads. Depends where and how you ride. Magile, if you ride north jersey your going to need something good.

Yes zip tie the donut. No need for race gas.
