X-Trainer Clutch Fluid Leak ???

Postby Yorick » Mon Jul 08, 2019 11:44 am

Twice lately the clutch has failed, due to no fluid in the master cyllinder. I filled it up and bled it and was OK for about 100 miles, then it emptied again.

There is no obvious leak at the top end and nothing obvious at the slave end. Behind the slave cylinder is the gearbox oil, so hard to spot a fluid leak.

Is this a known problem ? Where can the fluid be going ?

The bike is for sale, so need it fixing, but don't want to spend heaps of dosh.

Thanks in advance :)

Can you detach the slave from the engine and use a clamp to stop the piston being blown out? If so, you can then pressurise the circuit and hold the lever in with a zip tie. You should then be able to find the leak point pretty easily.

IMHO most likely a worn o-ring in the slave allowing clutch fluid to leak past.

I might be showing my stupidity here, but where is the O-ring ?

Between sylinder and piston.
It's just like a simple caliper with sylinder, piston and o-ring/gasket.

And I agree with wwguy, most likely just the o-ring
