keyed ignition for 200rr

Postby GMK999 » Thu Mar 18, 2021 10:19 am

2021 200rr
Street legal so I can run into town for lunch ,gas, and to feel like a hooligan. That said, I would love to have a key for the ignition, the fork lock is great but it starts so easy, that it would only take a second for it to be gone.
Anyone done it to their bike?, sugestions? Location? Kits available to plug and play? problems with the idea?
Any and all replies are welcome (I hope)

Here's a Beta-specific keyed switch from Sicass Racing that might work for you. It states it's for 2018-2019 models and I don't know if 2021 wiring has changed in a way that would affect the plug-and-play use of this switch. I don't have any firsthand experience with it, but Sicass Racing products are generally known to be high quality.

Personally I think the fork lock provides greater protection though (assuming that you only opt for one or the other.) The fork lock locks the fork with the front wheel fully turned, so nobody will be able to simply ride or roll the bike away. Sure, with enough hands available the bike can be carried away, but that possibility applies to the key switch too.

I think the greatest risk would be if using the key switch as the sole theft deterrent. In this case the bike could be quickly, quietly, and easily rolled away without making any attempt to start the engine. Later the keyswitch could be easily bypassed by simply unplugging it an re-plugging in the original wiring.

Just my two cents...

Thanks,@wwguy I ordered the part fro Sicass. It came today and installed in 5 minutes.Fit was spot on and is just what I need though my bars are a bit crowded due to all the DOT stuff.
Thanks for the info!

Anybody know if this will also work for an XTrainer?

Don't have the bike yet, but plan to make it fully street legal. Mainly for when I come out on a main road 10 miles from where I parked, so I can legally just ride the short distance.

You can order a Sicass keyed ignition specifically for the Xtrainer. I have one on mine. If you can't find it directly, you can contact OnePlusPerformance/AfterHoursCycles in Michigan. I ordered mine there from Steve.
