2021 4T Race Edition Mods for Dual Sport

My DMV issued me a plate for my ‘21 390 RR Race so I’m now setting up for adding blinkers, LED flasher, auxiliary power up to the bars for my Garmin Montana GPS cradle or a phone charger in a pinch, maybe the 3gal IMS tank, and rigging for a rear soft bag like the GL Coyote Bag. I want to keep it mostly in off-road trail set up, but be able to throw gear on and do an overnight dual sport ride of a couple hundred miles a couple of times a year.

If anyone has converted their 4T Race or 2T RR with dual sport mods, I’m interested in hearing what worked or what didn’t. Thinking of going with Lang’s flush LED rear signals since they appear to be the only source with the contoured spacers for the RE under-fender. And some short mini-stalk front signals that can handle off-road beating, maybe the Tusks. Anyone have luck with the cheap Ebay plug-in LED flasher?

I sourced some OEM-type connectors and have rigged a GPS cradle power source with a quick disconnect, running a cable from the radiator fan plug under the tank, and leaving a jumper for the fan plug-and-play. It’s fused and works well so far, only powers up when the bike’s running, should reduce the risk of draining the battery by mistake.

Happy to share results and anxious to hear suggestions or solutions. I’m learning the RE electrical system on the fly. Shout out to Jared at 3SeasRecreation for his reliable Beta-experience replies so far!

I’ve installed the MY20+ Flush Mount rear LED taillights from Lang’s Offroad in Ontario and stuck in a $4 plug-n-play LED flasher I got off EBay behind the headlight mask. Plug was there but no flasher there on the Race Edition. The lights kit included the right crimp on connectors, just trim wires to length. Works great so far. Even a screw adjuster on the flasher to speed up or slow down the flashing.

Nice! been thinking of putting turn signals on my 430RR race when it comes in. What did you end up using for the front signals?

I ordered the Tusk LED mini-stalks from Rocky Mtn. At $25/pr they’re cheap if I break one, and they’re a bit shorter than some old KTM OEM non-LEDs I was considering. I’ll report back and post a pic when they’re in and hooked up.

I bolted up a generic Tusk linkage guard extension plate to the stock skid plate. Had to trim a bit and hit it with a heat gun to bend it to the right shape, looks like it will work well. Re-routed the throttle cable to the right side of the frame backbone to make room for a Fastway 3 under-bar stabilizer—frame clamp is on back order, so a back burner item. Still debating how to rig up some hook points for a GL Coyote bag, don’t want to cut slots or drill into the composite subframe.

Thanks Holeshot. Looking forward to seeing you turn signal set up complete. I may go the same way.

These Tusk mini-stock LEDs look pretty cheaply made, but then all the aftermarket signals seem to be cheap imports, and most have lousy reviews. The low budget Tusk parts I’ve bought have always been pretty decent and a good value for the price. The Good: the stem is the right size for the stock holes in the mask, no disfiguring, so you can always change over to the OEMs if you like. They come with long leads (too long, oh well) and they already have the bullet connectors that will just plug into the harness leads. And compared to the OEM type off a KTM ( (held up in the pic for comparison) they’re nice and small, tuck in really well, and they’re bright!

The Bad, sort of: Unless you add spacers, the stalk length is too short to hold the lens out alongside the mask. I made a run to the hardware store for a flange nut (M10, 1.25 fine pitch) on the lens side to hold it out there, then a toothed washer and a jam nut on the other side, and there’s just enough length for a couple of turns on the jam nuts. I gave it a good dousing of blue Loctite to keep it all tight and firm. And the two female connectors from the bike’s harness needed a very slight crimping to get the male bullet connector to firmly seat.

The bike’s green/black is the right signal, purple/black is left. I matched the blue leads from the lights to the green and purple, greens from the lights to the blacks- all good. They look like they belong there, nice and minimal, light up very bright, even have a curve to the lens that follows curve of the mask. Me like!

My add list and costs:
- Lang’s flush rear signals, $86 delivered from CAN
- Tusk mini-stalk front signals, $26 RMATV. LED plug-in flasher $4 EBay
- Tusk linkage guard/skid plate extension, $35 RMATV
- Tusk rear brake disc guard, $56 RMATV
- Enduro Engineering radiator braces, $110
- Brass wheel balance weights, $17 EBay
- Cycra Pro Bend hand guards and shields, $104 Amazon
- Fastway below-bar dampener mount-3/4” bar riser, $55
- Double-take mirror and lever-clamp Ram ball mount and arm, $50/$15
- 2 pin quick disconnect accessory power wire to bars, $9 EBay
- Garmin electric cradle for Montana GPS, on Ram ball, from another bike, about $25/$10
- EE license plate holder, $16 RMATV

Home-made fabs: Electric adapter for power from main harness for accessories, plastic riser plate to lift speedo 3/4” along with bar riser so it’s accessible, aluminum brackets for Coyote bag hooks—from sub-frame rear under-fender attachment bolts

To come: Larger tank for 100+ mile range, probably go with IMS 3gal. Seat, still debating Seat Concepts tall/comfort or maybe Guts tall/soft.

Great list of additions and mods! For feedback on the tank size. I have the IMS 3.1 (2016 430) and I can get about 110 miles to the bitter end with mixed road and trails. Not a lot of single track, say 20% dirt and 80% road, and that 110 mile range is pretty much it. I carry a liter of fuel with me if I expect to ride 100 miles just because.

I do like the Tusk items from RMATV, so I'm going to look at them right no for spares as I know how I ride that I will likely profit from having some in the spares drawer. :)
