Potential trade: 2015 250 race for 350XCF/450

Potential trade: 2015 250 race for 350XCF/450

Postby Chainslap » Thu Feb 05, 2015 8:08 am

Love the bike but decided I would like to do more dual sport rides and exploring and thinking about going back to a more do all bike. Thus, looking to see if anyone has a 2013+ KTM 350XCF or 2007+ 450EXC/XCF-W they might want to trade for my 2015 250 Race model. Has 20 hours and is stock other than Hyde Skidplate, BRP top clamp with Cycra Pro Bends and Scotts mount (scotts not included), Enduro Engineering braces, and a new spare FMF Gnarly pipe. Couple scratches from the desert but mint otherwise. Would also consider an outright sale.

I can get some pics up soon but shoot me a message for more info.

If you can afford it keep the 250 and get an RS.
You should get an RS anyway. So far I've found my 430 to be better or more fun to ride.

Unfortunately I can't. I have some other investments I would like to do at this point as well so that I can afford to have a fleet of new bikes. A trials bike, 250 2-stroke, 500, and a 950. Yep, that would do nicely.

That seems like a loser trade for you.. I'd still look around for an RS . I think you are losing too much in the trades you are talking about..but then someone will score. Aren't the forks on the race 250 a bit stiff? Seems lots of guys are doing some work to soften those zokes out.. Great deal you're giving.. wish you well to get the bike that works for you.

I ended up taking the preload out of the fork spring (first setting) and running 5wt in the forks with the PFP at about 1.5 turns and that made it pretty damn good. I also only weigh 150lbs and am running stock springs still. But I prefer a stiffer suspension personally.

I'll consider a RS still. Particularly if you can get a 5+ gallon tank for one.

It looks like you're going to take a beating on the trade you seek. If that's going to be the case anyway, why not go back to the dealer and see what kind of trade in deal you can get on a new 350RR race edition? That bike is receiving a lot of love from guys who've ridden it. Just a thought... My plan is get one as soon as a stall opens up later this year.

I doubt you'll like riding with the 19L tank on the KTM. Chris runs a 13L on his Mexico trips but on his 500 he's talking about having me switch it with the stock tank for the local rides. The 13L is pretty wide, a huge contrast with the slim feel of the Beta even with the IMS tank. You shouldn't need that sort of range for any organized dual sport ride.
If you really like the Beta I strongly recommend an RS.

I don't really do organized Dual Sport rides, more like remote wanderings with a few people, or solo. Expert level trials rider so I like off the beaten path, even more so than many off road enthusiasts. I had a 6.6 tank on my 400EXC and yes it has enormous, but a damn nice thing to have. Took it off and put the stocker back on when I just went trail riding. Super versatile bike and my favorite bike I've owned. Not that it was great at any one thing but was damn good at everything I wanted to do.
