Force combo skid plate/pipe guard

Postby GMP » Mon Apr 14, 2014 9:37 am

OK after riding with this a few times I finally had the chance to beat on it a bit and it gets a big two thumbs up so far IMO. Pipe protection is great, probably next best thing to a custom cage. Glides over big logs, and the two bolt mounting system stays tight and secure. Although its easy to R&R, it wasn't even neccessary to clean it out. There is enough space around the pipe to scrape out leaves and debris, and slots make washing mud out easier than I thought it would be. Not cheap, but the best option I've ever used by far for riding rocks.

That looks like the best out there.. I'm going with the enduro engineering in the short time mainly for saving money initially .. I'll get my other essentials and later upgrade.. It is not cheap but from what I see it looks to be the strongest design.. and not as ugly as the Hyde.

On a steep rocky downhill Sunday my front wheel partially dislodged a big rock that caught the front of the guard under the pipe and actually jacked the bike up! A big "clang", thats it! With any other guard I'd be swapping out a destroyed pipe now. Paid for itself already.

I'm with HR. Want one bad, just have to wait for the funds to afford it. Love the thought of the two bolt system. Can't wait till I get mine. Thanks for being the first Glen.

Here is a shot of the bottom of the guard since installed. Together with the Fastway link skid, it makes a very smooth undercarriage that does not catch on obstacles intentionally or unintentionally hit. I cut the OEM plastic skid to extend coverage under the pegs and add a frame tube buffer. All works nice.

Man that is one stout skid/pipe protector! Really thick. I have a much better idea of what it looks like now. How do U attach the plastic skid? So it's pulled back further than stock position? I'd like to see where U made the cuts when U have it off if possible. Thanks.

As I said before, it is LIGHTER than the combined weight of the Beta USA alloy skidplate and Moose alloy pipe guard it replaced. The fitting of the stock plastic unit for a buffer was easy, I'll take a pic next time it's off.

Is this the pipe guard you used? I'm about to order one, but wanted to know how you liked the fit. My pipe meaures 1.75" OD so I guess it'll fit.

You linked the 4stroke but I'm sure you meant this:

I've used several of these and they fit decent with a little care in bending. On the Beta, start on the fat part of the pipe that is the widest or you can run short. All I had to do was remove a "finger" to clear the pipe mount. IMO, ding protection from small flying rocks is almost as good as a CF guard. If you hit a big rock with any pipe guard the pipe will bend anyway but with this probably less at the header.
