1000 Mile Report

Postby mcnut » Tue May 26, 2015 6:51 am

My 2014 Beta 250RR, new to me, 14-hour demo from After Hours Cycle (twowheels) has 1000+ miles on her! I started my affair with her in October of last year and I'm still in love!
I'm kind of hard on stuff, according to my wife. This Beta has held up well to my use & abuse. Parts that I've used up and replaced so far include:
-A big pile of air filters.
-3 rear tires.
-3 front tires.
-One shift lever.
-A chain & sprocket set.
-A rear brake disk.
I've been able to break almost every piece of plastic. But hey! I have many hidden talents! Front fender is cracked across the mounting bolts but still in use. The headlight assembly and the headlight mask are both being held together with strategically placed zip-ties. The rear outer fender is cracked where it creased from catching my Gaerne in a silly get-off. Unbelievably, both radiator shrouds haven't been damaged. That's really bizarre for me! But somehow I broke my subframe at the upper mount on the right side. BTW, my son broke a '12 GasGas subframe and I accidentally ran over a competitor's '12 GG with my '11 GG breaking the '12's subframe, but they were made from shatter-plastic. Unlike the GG, which was rendered unride-able when the plastic snapped, I rode the Beta over 150 miles with the subframe broken, and I couldn't even tell!
My only regret is not replacing the plastic skid plate with an aluminum unit. The lower frame rails are kind of mashed from slamming logs.
I love this motorcycle! If my wife allows me to upgrade, I'll buy another.

How is your seat base? The '13 has less reinforcing ribs and flexes a little more, and mine has finally cracked. Not real bad and I was able to fix it. What they should do is change the subframe so there is a center seat support over the battery. It could double as a hard frame battery holddown. This spring I installed a shorter EarthX battery. Before that, with the taller stock battery, I added some thick rubber strip on the seat pan as a contact pad to the battery as the seat could touch the terminals. This helped greatly and is likely why the seat lasted so long. After fixing the seat crack I made up a taller pad for use with the Earthx battery.

Is that what they call though love? :D I've only managed to do about half of those things to mine in 5000km/160h.

My '13. seat cracked pretty early on. I think it was from a crash. Crack didn't progress since, but I should take care of it.

Thats exactly what mine looks like, no big deal. The '14+ has some extra ribs.

Good answer! Thanks for sharing, Of course any of us fine Beta dealers can hook you up with new plastics, but there is now another choice out there too.

Don Claerhout from DC plastics is a Beta Fanatic too and now he makes plastics for our bikes. He also makes some good looking seat covers.
