I was facinated by the original tyres on my 2016 300RR, particularly the rear.
It just astounded me something could be so bloody bad. Everywhere.
So far, I've used 4 Goldentyres, 2 front 2 rear.
I had a normal sized 216AA front and while it was WORLDS better than the oem thing, aye it wasn't all I expected.
The 216AA rear I had was junk. 2 riding friends had similar experiences. Rory had one on his Sherco 300 and was stuck on a hill one day and I said to the other guy " look Ian thats X ZACHARY what I said I experienced with mine, it just turns in loose stuff and will not hook even a tiny bit "
Ian still put a 216AA rear on and after 90 minutes riding at a huge ride park we went to pulled in back at camp and got his spare rear wheel off his KTM 500 with a half worn Goldentyre 333 and put that on.
SO my next rear was the Goldentyre 333 which I liked. I fitted a 216AA Fatty front Goldentyre after all the rave reviews I heard.
It was better than the standard size 216AA but I found it could be trecherous at times and wanted to steer out of ruts which I hated.
The other day I fitted a pair of Michelin Star Cross 5 mediums. I got the 90/ 100 front and the 120/90 rear.
They are, great.
I ride in a mostly mixed sort of terrain, it's hard pack fire trails with patches of sand, but then sand stone out crops and the hardest deal, loose basketball and coconut sized loose sand stone rocks and powdery sand. With logs thrown in.
Today i found the Michelin rear would drive over a log when trail blazing up hill and I'd get baulked at log because there was brush hanging down or whatever. I have the rear right against the log and drive over. same with rock ledges which in my case can have loose gravel and dirt thrown in.
It was especially telling when I had to get off and walk - push my way through stuff, I found the rear wouldn't want to shy off on a camber like the GT's always would.
Loose...
