Suspension Hard Case

Recently purchased a Plano 42” All Weather Tacticsl gun case for shipping my suspension off for tuning. You can fit the entire suspension in here but the the shock is close to the legs. Jammed some material inbetween so there aren’t any metal on metal dings. I am halfway tempted to buy a smaller case just for the shock. Overall, case seems pretty solid and can be locked.

That's a great case. With a set of suspension running ~$2300 (before the magic is applied) it's definitely worth the investment.

Here are some shipping guidelines/suggestions from LTR suspension. There are some suggestions specific to hard cases...

For suspension work - I highly recommend Les Tinius at LT-Racing - more experienced than anyone else you can find and the nicest guy you will ever meet. He is very well qualified - machinist, honda factory trained master tech, I admit my bias - he has been a good friend of mine for over 40 years... Took me to my first race in 1974... (he had a license and I didn't!!!) :-)

Ronnie Brown has moved on from American Beta race team suspension guy to do his own thing. He does awesome work as well and most importantly has Sachs experience, this cant be stressed enough. A suspension tuner that has never seen Sachs cannot do a decent job, no matter what they say, the parts are different, the diameters are different they work different.... Ronnies site is Tuned By Ronnie Brown for another option.

Thanks for the tuning recommendations. Its funny that you mention LTR because I was just checking his website thinking "these prices can't be right." Plus the pic of him racing that old bike on his site is pretty rad. Can't imagine what it must feel like coming from that and seeing the goodies on the market today. No offense to twowheels, everybody here highly respects him and if I lived back in my homeland of Iowa then he would be in serious contention.

I just ordered a small case for the shock, and some new foam for the legs (since I jacked the sh!t out of the original pick-n-pluck trying to get the shock in there). Will post new pics later.

For sure twowheels, after seeing people suggest getting a flourescent bulb box and just putting $2300 in bubble wrap...I thought that $70 was cheap insurance.

Those prices are right... And you don't have to pay an arm and a leg to get a "complete tune" to have it done "right".

Les does more than others for that money - Cracks open the cartridge and checks every mating surface - the rebound and mid-valves are tuned as well as the compression circuit. It is a complete tune for one price - no hidden charges for shims, oil, etc. No surprises... No magic pixie dust required...

Relative to experience with Sachs Forks - they came on gasgas starting in 2009 and Les has been doing them since then - he has more experience with them than anyone else.

So here is the small case for the shock. Poor pick-n-pluck job on my part, but the separate case for the shock was the right move. Now I can finally send these out for tune-up. The warmer weather here in WA has kept the snowboard on the rack and making me want to get the bike back together ASAP
