Emperor skid plate/pipe guard

Postby Lotus54 » Mon Nov 26, 2018 9:01 am

Has anyone used the Emperor skid plate/pipe guard combo? (For the X-trainer, but reports are that with one small bend will fit the RR).
It is expensive, but looks like superb protection.

i know people that run them, they work well, but damn... that's ugly, and looks super heavy. and i cant stand metal skid plates - so noisy!

I have the P-tech combo guard on my 2018 Xtrainer. It is a work of art and not noisy. However, I wear custom molded ear plugs so take my opinion lightly. I do not think this would accommodate the RR expansion chamber. I have no plans to go that route. YMMV

that looks like a nice piece of protection....knock off about $100 to $125, and it woud be much better.
but i agree with mrquick68...plastic is sooo much better.

BTW, I went with the P-Tech when I bought the bike. I liked the linkage protection and it has worked really well.
No noise issue, I generally do not wear ear plugs. BUT I also ride very slow ‘trails’ 90% of the time.

I found putting sound deadening material like dynamat on the inside flat areas of the skid help greatly

I had an emperor, had 5 cracked welds and constant noise and coming loose. I think p tech would be way to go. Fits a lot tighter to the pipe and frame, still need to zip tie old inner tube to frame though
