Installed the Bill Dart chainsaw mount today. I added a spacer for the lower triple, modified the fender bracket, and drilled new holes In the rack for upper triple Mounting. Had to cut one plastic spacer in half for the upper mounting and made a bracket to keep the OEM instrument display. Toying with the idea of just keeping it mounted all the time and getting a cheap LED light bar mounted under the front of the rack to stay street “legal.”

That looks nicely done. Now I have chainsaw mount envy! :-)

Just curious - what chainsaw will you carry with you on that mount?

I am looking at a makita/dolmar 6100 and wondering if it would be too large to carry.

thanks,
jeff

Right now I just have a Makita battery saw. Probably going to end up with a gas powered one soon

Just an fyi on chainsaws - I think all of the makita gasoline chainsaws are made by dolmar in germany (acquired by makita a number of years ago). The makita/dolmar ea6100 that I am looking to get is made in germany...

Most all in our group that pack chainsaws opt for the Husqvarna due to the lightweight and durability, these are mostly 16" bars. Some do carry the Stihl small saw that fits the composite carrier which I think are 14" bars. One of the younger fellows carrys a large saw when it is known that the area they are clearing has some very big logs to clear. I don't carry anymore but when I did it was the Husky which at the time was quite a bit lighter than the Stihl and we found to be more reliable - that may have changed by now.

IMHO Bill Dart's saw mounts are the best available due to the simple strong design, adaptability to just about any saw, and ease of deploying and stowing while on the trail.

For everyday riding I carry an Echo CS-355T top handle arborist saw with 16" bar. (Stihl makes similar models too.) For me it's a good balance between weight and power. But I do occasionally carry a bigger Stihl traditional saw with 24" bar for specific trail clearing missions, usually in springtime as snow melts and trails start opening up for the season.

Some riders are more hardcore than me though, LOL. (Pic from Bill's website.)

The stock head light is a 35W/35W low-high beam. Ordered a pack of two 20W LED from Amazon to try out since they should fit nicely under the front of the rack and provide more light. I am looking to use them like the stock bulb, one on low beam and both on high beam.
