Fastway linkage guard review for the Beta range

Postby betajuice » Sat Aug 01, 2015 6:58 pm

had this on the bike for a pile of rides now but didn't want to report back until it had a decent thrashing first.

video review here: https://youtu.be/m5ATPCjwCcg

as with any fastway gear, it's all top quality with good instructions, easy to fit.

i was a bit puzzled that the four adjustment positions start from the stock position then only lower the rear end. i was hoping one or two might have jacked up the rear end as sharper turning, a tad more clearance and a softening of the shock's early travel would have been fun to mess around with.

but if you are into faster riding then the three positions will be good to experiment with.

definitely the most expensive linkage guard, but easily the toughest out there from what i can see. for the sort of riding we do it's been great for sliding over rocks, truck tires and logs instead of getting caught up.

yep the slavens guard is a good budget option if you don't do a lot of rocks or log hopping. i did read cases of them bending when subjected to this sort of riding a lot but the overall summary from riders was good value for a reasonable amount of protection. at this stage the fastway appears to be the only option for heavy duty protection.

you can go cheaper than the slavens option too, there' the obi which just bolts on to your bashplate for $40: http://www.obielinkguard.com/

The old cliche "Don't bring a knife to a gun fight" comes to mind.

I always thought the Slavens version was pretty cheese ball.

After seeing what there was in the way of linkage guards I purchased the Fastway/Stillwell setup for my 2015 250rr. At first I was thinking theres no way its worth it and was leaning towards one of the cheaper options. Boy am I glad I made this decision! Here it is after 60 hrs, most of the damage is from the Corduroy Enduro (a pretty demanding race). Would not have finished if I didnt have this part and could quite possibly still be in the forest

I actually bent the bottom up a little bit. Still fine and a few min cleanup with a file will be ready for next year.
