So beta bit me hard the other day

Postby ks9mm » Sun Aug 10, 2014 7:12 am

Was in rocky terrain, hit rock at an angle on third gear. Front deflected badly and next thing I know...broken collarbone..

Was a long walk down the mountain, but my riding partners took care of bike and took me to hospital.

Already had surgery to put plate on that collarbone...front forks suck...

Not as bad as breaking a collarbone. Heal up soon, and in the meantime you can do the suspension work we were talking about,

Yes, I got your email, I will be calling you to discuss details.

Meanwhile bike is safe at friends house, cause wife threatens put sledge hammer to my new beta... She does not want me to ride ever again. Funny her.

I've been thrown sideways for no apparent reason in rocky, rooty trails with my stock/revalved sachs. Once I was thrown 5 or six feet. I am saving up for the kyb sss conversion. I want to be able to charge thru with confidence. Off camber roots can be tricky with these babies, as well as boulder fields. I hope U have a fast recovery.

KS,

Sorry to hear that. I have Ti plate and six screws on my right one, fast rocky downhill get off up in Hancock NY back in '08. Worst part was the club guys would not let me try to ride out and made me get on a quad! You did the right thing with immediate surgery, do the rehab as your doc says and when and up your calcium intake. Don't rush it. I had three surgerys and a bone graft on mine to clean up a big mess, year and a half off the bike. Give me a call if you have any questions or need some encourgement.

Being a rock rider above all else, I can tell you that even with the best fork set up perfectly stuff like this still can and will happen. There are too many variables to control. Every rock is different, some come loose, etc. It will happen and you eventually will hit the ground, you must accept that. Thats one thing that makes this area tough, and some of the less tehnical trail the worst because speed goes up. That said, of course make the most of the susoension. Also s Scotts or Fastway damper with a high speed ckt goes a long way in helping to reduce and slow the deflections to a speed that you can react to.

Heal up and I'll take you riding.

I've never tried a damper, but the more I learn about them the more I want one.

Yeah that was a big displacement. The good thing is there were no fragments. Mine looked like it exploded. You don't have the Acumed Ti locking plate, I think it's a stainless one. I know too much about this. Researched the hell out of it. I have a video of the surgery my doc did, have to find that. Don't rush back, healed for normal activity is not healed for riding. Keep the blood flowing to the area with as much rehab as your allowed to do. Google "Zoom Bang Shirt". You may want one to wear under your gear and pad the plate area until you get used to it. After a year you will not notice it anymore if it was installed correctly.

Heal fast. This could happen to any of us. I know what it's like to have to sit it out too. Not fun when all your riding buddies are having fun and getting better.
