Hi All,
Just wanted to share my recent main bearing failure with you all. I've had the bike from new, well maintainted, always keep air filter clean, have always added 100:1 in the tank as well as running OI. The OI has run perfectly and has had nothing to do with the failure in my opinion, I’ve since removed it for peace of mind.
The LHS bearing suffered a failure with the cage breaking off, this happened at 110 hrs. with 2500 KM riding, riding has been mix of single track and some high country rides in Victoria.
I think there’s always been a problem with the bike from new, but i ignored the symptoms, the bike would occasionally scream on me, whenever working the clutch hard on hills, i just thought it was the clutch, then twice later on in its life I had the high pitched scream at about 90 – 100 hrs, which has been documented on youtube several times by various people, again I ignored this and it let go at 110 hours, at that point the bike didn’t make any unusual noise just stopped running and sounded like it had low comp, after tear down it was clear that it had eaten some metal...
Bike now converted to a 300 and running well, I guess the problem could have been prevented if I’d not ignored it but given the common problems with theses bike, would of made sense to repair it when I first heard the noises, if I’d known! But I guess I’m impressed it lasted that long.
